Raised on skating and snowboarding in the Eastern townships of Canada, Shamus Mahannah began drawing at 4, when his grandfather would have him trace Winnie the Pooh books. After three years studying illustration and design at Dawson College in Montreal, Shamus began an apprenticeship at Tatouage West.
When Tatouage opened their new shop, a space large enough for 5 artists with a gallery room, Shamus helped out with the move up the ladder. He is now in his sixth year as a tattoo artist. —Rose Athena, resident Calgary-based Juxtapoz intern
