12 Percent drop in HIV infections among youth aged 15 to 24 since 2001, according to a new report released by UNICEF. Five million young people are now HIV-positive, with 2,500 new infections reported daily. Young women are disproportionately affected, accounting for 60% of all young people living with HIV — and 72% in sub-Saharan Africa. The reduction fell short of a UN goal to eliminate 25% of HIV infections among the world’s youth by 2011.
