SAD!
Former Alice In Chains bassist Mike Starr (pictured far right) was found dead earlier today, according to TMZ.com. He was 44 years old.
Reports say that police discovered his body after being called to investigate a Salt Lake City address this afternoon. At present, a cause of death has not been established.
Starr was arrested last month for possession of a controlled substance, including painkillers and anti-anxiety medication.
Starr was the bassist for Alice In Chains from their inception in 1987. He played on the albums Facelift (1990) and Dirt (1992), before quitting in 1993. Last year, the bassist appeared on the VH1 reality show Celebrity Rehab to treat an addiction to heroin.
This is not the first death to hit the band. In April, 2002, Alice In Chains vocalist Layne Staley passed away following a drug overdose in his Seattle home.
Everyone at Kerrang! would like to pass on their condolences to Starr’s family, friends and former bandmates at this sad time.
