Beyonce covers Kings Of Leon and Prince at Glastonbury

Beyonce brought Glastonbury to a bootylicious climax on the Pyramid Stage tonight (June 26).

The R&B superstar made her much-anticipated headline slot just before 10pm, and treated the crowd to a end-of-festival show packed with hits, covers and surprises.

The singer opened with her smash ‘Crazy In Love’, which despite rumours, did not see Jay-Z turn up. But the song did see giant fireworks fire up on each side of the stage in time to the track’s signature trumpets.

Next, the clearly-moved singer greeted an ecstatic Glastonbury with an impassioned speech where she declared, “I always wanted to be a rock star, and tonight we are all rock stars!!” She continued: “I want to make beautiful memories and be free tonight.”

In as surprise twist after ‘Naughty Girl’’ she brought out British rapper Tricky to guest on ‘Baby Boy’, before powering through two tracks from new album ‘4’, ‘End Of Time’ and new single ‘Best Thing I Never Had’.

Next came the mash-ups, as the gold sequin-covered Knowles broke into ‘Alanis Morrissette’s ‘You Oughta Know’ during If I Were A Boy’ before her own ‘Sweet Dreams’ morphed into ‘Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)’ by Eurythmics. Then ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’ saw a cover of Prince’s ‘Beautiful Ones’ segue into ‘Sex On Fire’ by Kings Of Leon.

‘Irreplaceable’ saw a mass singalong with the crowd taking the lead on the entire first verse. But the biggest thrill of the evening came with her Destiny’s Child medley. After paying tribute to her former bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, she powered through segments of their biggest hits, including ‘Independent Women (Part 1) , ‘Say My Name’ and ‘Survivor’. Interspersed within it was a segment of her Lady Gaga duet ‘Telephone’.

As she approached the climax with ‘Run The World (Girls)’ and ‘Halo’, Beyonce declared: “A girl, a woman, a young lady has not headlined for 20 years. This is history for me.”
