PP
"Hell Hounds From The North" Base 23/ Morten Andersen Opening 25.03.2011, 19h Show: 25.03. - 29.04.2011

Pretty Portal Brunnenstr. 12 40223 Düsseldorf Phone: 0211-4161831-0 mail: hallo@prettyportal.de
At the first exhibition this year, Pretty Portal shows Morten Andersen and Base23, two artists who both tend to Urban Art. Morten Andersen attracted the public attention by using rhythmic forms and expressive, whirling colours. Base 23 hypnotized people creating characters, that remind of indian totems of the 23rd century. The vigorous and graphical pieces of Base 23 build a strong contrast to abstract works by Morten Andersen. As a result the visitors/viewers will experiece great tension caused by the confrontation of the both artists. ...

Exhibition: INLE at 1988

Thanks to Alex Pardee's Facebook, I've found this! What an amazing art show! Just the idea to make an exhibition about the Black rabbit of Inle, a character of Richard Adam's "Watership Down", is pure brilliancy! Then look at the list of artists. We have Alex Pardee, Ron English, Linkin Park's Joe Hahn, Jersey Joe Rime, Revok, Retna, Dave Flores ATC, Jeff Soto, Dan May, Tony Curanaj, Pete Wentz, Travie McCoy, etc. This show just has to be good! EDIT: As the opening was yesterday, I will try to find some more pictures and post them here. Gallery 1988 posted already two contributions on their blog. This one is from curator Greg Simkins:...

Please join us for the exciting opening of this new exhibition, I was here for just a moment, on Friday, March 18th from 7-10pm. Each of Sternbergʼs works is an explosion of layered text, heavy painterly washes and strong, gestural brushstrokes. Working with oils, watercolors and spray paint, his works have an organized chaos that is both compelling and appealing. Within each piece, is an underlying statement on human rights, ecology, personal relationships or other subjects of emotional relevance....

Unintended Calculations at Becker Galleries

UC
Curated by Indigo, Unintended Calculations brings together a group of internationally renowned artists – Augustine Kofie (LA), Jerry Inscoe (PDX), Remi/Rough (LDN) and Scott Sueme (VAN) – for an exhibition at Becker Galleries and two collaborative murals at Moda Hotel exploring four very different approaches to abstraction. Working in a variety of mediums, these artists have evolved the letterform building blocks of their shared graffiti background, deconstructing and rebuilding them as compositions of color, line, shape and movement.
Sounds good? Sure it does! If you're in Vancouver then, make sure to pay them a visit. Here are the dates and some pics:...
