Kehinde Wiley - The World Stage: Israel
Just this Saturday night, Roberts & Tilton packed the house for the latest installment of Kehinde Wiley’s The World Stage series. Taking his signature brand of portraiture to Israel and the surrounding region, rife with tumultuous conflict and historical context, was a natural next step for the New York-based painter, as he continues his exploration of power and politics. Mostly large scale paintings from urban anthropologist and artist filled the spacious gallery and its multiple rooms with richly detailed works featuring youths assuming the poses of old renaissance paintings surrounded by the patterns, language, and imagery of Israel.

OPENING TODAY>>>D*Face: Going Nowhere Fast
London based street artist D*Face announced that he is going to pay LA a little visit to work on some projects:
The winter months and grey, grey short days have been kept busy harvesting creatures, painting pictures, approaching new themes and reoccurring dreams... and as Spring approaches it's time to unveil this new body of work... I'm pleased to announce my solo show at Corey Helford Gallery, Culver City. LA. April 9th.
If thats not enough May 6th will see the opening of a group installation show and British Invasion, myself, Word To Mother, Will Barras and The London Police are working with LA artist Mear One and 3 other US artists to create a Temporary Metropolis... yeah even I'm not sure what thats going to look like...
If this isn't enough I hear LA has some pretty good sun... might be worth a visit.
All the pest,
D

Special Art Post #6: SABER
It's been a long time since I've posted my last "Special Art Post" about Willie T., so I think it's time for another one. I've decided to dedicate #6 to artists SABER, because he's one of the best graffiti artists, he completed the largest graffiti piece on the cement bank of Los Angeles River in 1997 (blood shedding included), he has probably the coolest website, and.... he's cool. Actually this is not really an easy post to do, because SABER has done so many art pieces throughout the years and there's tons of material on the web, including probably more interesting articles about him on bigger sites. So this post is more like a little introduction of SABER and a little summary of what you can find on the web about him. I strongly recommend to click your way though his website, blog and other pages, because there is way more stuff than I can post here.
