Remi/Rough X System: 3 Kings

Myself & System have been planning this wall for the past 18 months and finally we got around to doing it. It’s our homage to the masters – Dondi White, Jean Michel Basquiat & RammellZee. 3 of the most influential artists upon the graffiti and street art scenes. We’ve also made a short film about it which we should have ready by mid next week. We hope you enjoy this as much as we have enjoyed looking at their works ever since we started painting.

Mural on Fairfax “Accidentally” Buffed

BG Image via Melrose & Fairfax Twitter was abuzz when news were spread that a mural done by celebrated artists Retna, Rime, Revok, Norm, Saber, and Os Gêmeos was partially painted over by workers from Graffiti Control Systems. Fortunately the process was stopped by the owner of the building before the piece was covered completely. The whitewash was stripped and the piece can be restored. Graffiti and Street Art are probably the most controversial forms of art with artists being in conflict with the governments constantly. Many incredible pieces by exceptional artists have already been buffed, one of the most famous being Sabers LA River piece. It's time that the authorities realise how valuable those art works are and thank the artists instead of constantly destroying their work! Ekta The Swedish fine artist, illustrator, and mural artist, Ekta, was interviewed by Juxtapoz magazine. Among other things, he talks about his background, his discovery of art, his name, his works, and why he doesn't do outside work at the moment. It's a great interview!
Tell me a little bit about yourself and how you got started? I was born in 1978 in a small coastal town in the south of Sweden. When I was 18 I moved to London with my best friend to skate and ended up staying there for 9 years. Art came through skateboarding and somewhere around the millennium painting and drawing became more important to me than skating. Some early influences in art were people like Mark Gonzales and Neil Blender. In 2005 my personal life was not so good and not having money to pay the expensive London bills, I decided to try my luck back in Sweden and moved to Gothenburg, where I’ve been since....
