NOUAR “Internally Yours”

Featuring a Special Mini-Exhibition in the Upstairs Gallery by Joshua Petker “Celluloid Constellations”

Opening Reception Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 7-10pm On View June 11 – June 29, 2011

On Saturday, June 11, Nouar will unveil “Internally Yours”, the Los Angeles artist’s first solo exhibition at Corey Helford Gallery, and her most avant-garde to date. The works in “Internally Yours” feature three-dimensional sugary confections, gelatin dessert molds and a bright, beguiling color palette that lure the viewer in. However, like Jeff Koons’ brightly-colored balloon animals, the characters have a significance beyond their deceptively innocent appearance. “For this show,” Nouar says, “I used food as a visual metaphor to symbolize how dangers are hidden, and how we don’t see them coming until it is too late.” For example, in her painting “Sweet Entrapment,” a bright-pink gummy bear smirks at the doe-eyed brunette trapped inside its stomach. ...

Upcoming Art Shows: Year Of The Rabbit & Year Of The Labbit

This retrospective exhibition celebrates the work of Sakai and includes original drawings and paintings that bring to life the adventures of his samurai rabbit from 17th century feudal Japan. Usagi Yojimbo is based on the historical figure Miyamoto Musashi and inspired by Japanese folklore, literature, and film. Heavily researched and rich in detail, Sakai’s storylines mix both humor and drama to tell adventures that include authentic Japanese history and culture in the form of a distinctly American comic book....

Remi/Rough & Stormie Mills: Selected Moments

RRSM That sounds like a great art show, so if you're in the area, make sure to pay them a visit! Remi/Rough about the show:
I’m pretty excited about this show… The first ever show with my great friend Stormie Mills and just myself! We’re reflecting on some of our travels together and referencing some of the huge walls and special projects we’ve done together… It’s at the Unit44 Gallery in Newcastle and we’ll be painting a massive wall as part of the show. It’s going to be pretty different for us both.
Announcement at Unit44's Blog:
When we launched the space we always had the artist in mind. Being able to invite artists to the North East and get to grips with a project they are really passionate about is where we really wanted to be. No point in doing things by halves or starting off slow we introduce Remi/Rough & Stormie Mills. Collaborating in this format they will create something completely original, bespoke, and personal to the space itself. I see no better way of starting our gallery programme. It gives us great pleasure to announce 'Selected Moments'.
