Revok’s Side Of The Story

As you all know, Revok was arrested and convicted for 180 days a while ago. Fortunately he was released three days ago and told us his side of the story. You guys probably know that I'm a big fan of graffiti, always happy to find some color in the streets. I still can understand, when home owners aren't so happy when someone writes on their walls and they have to pay for the removal. However, charging one of the greatest graffiti artists for painting murals with the property owners consent is just ridiculous! This is a clear attack against the art itself and has nothing to do with vandalism! Here's Revok's blog post:
-After 44 days and 24,000$ of debt I am finally out of jail… Thank you soo very much to all of you people who showed your support with drawings, paintings, etc. It means a great deal to me that there are people out there that actually give a shit. ...

NOUAR “Internally Yours”

Featuring a Special Mini-Exhibition in the Upstairs Gallery by Joshua Petker “Celluloid Constellations”

Opening Reception Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 7-10pm On View June 11 – June 29, 2011

On Saturday, June 11, Nouar will unveil “Internally Yours”, the Los Angeles artist’s first solo exhibition at Corey Helford Gallery, and her most avant-garde to date. The works in “Internally Yours” feature three-dimensional sugary confections, gelatin dessert molds and a bright, beguiling color palette that lure the viewer in. However, like Jeff Koons’ brightly-colored balloon animals, the characters have a significance beyond their deceptively innocent appearance. “For this show,” Nouar says, “I used food as a visual metaphor to symbolize how dangers are hidden, and how we don’t see them coming until it is too late.” For example, in her painting “Sweet Entrapment,” a bright-pink gummy bear smirks at the doe-eyed brunette trapped inside its stomach. ...

Top 10 Controversial Music Videos

10. Fiona Apple - Criminal In her 1997 music video for "Criminal," an emaciated Fiona Apple, surrounded by what appear to be tranquilized models, undresses as she croons lyrics like "I've been a bad, bad girl." Apple's appearance, described by the New Yorker as being similar to that of an "underfed Calvin Klein model," spurred accusations that the video promoted a "heroin chic" and had "overtones of child porn." Taking a fiercely uncompromising stance against her critics, Apple said, as she accepted her MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist later that year, "Everybody out there that's watching ... this world is bullshit and you shouldn't model your life about what you think that we think is cool. 9. Christina Aguilera - Dirrty This 2002 song from Christina Aguilera's album Stripped had plenty of raunch and chaps, but it was a message hidden to most that raised a flag — in Thailand. Amid the grinding, suggestive hand motions and scant clothing are signs that hint at illegal sex trafficking in Thailand in the background as Aguilera dances in a boxing ring. Translated from Thai, the signs read "Thailand's sex tourism" and "Young underage girls." While Aguilera's record label contended the singer had no idea what the signs meant when translated, Thailand banned the video from airing in the country. ...

Upcoming Art Shows: Year Of The Rabbit & Year Of The Labbit

Year of the Rabbit: Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo July 9 - October 30, 2011 For over 25 years, fans around the world have been enjoying Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo. This retrospective exhibition celebrates the work of Sakai and includes original drawings and paintings that bring to life the adventures of his samurai rabbit from 17th century feudal Japan. Usagi Yojimbo is based on the historical figure Miyamoto Musashi and inspired by Japanese folklore, literature, and film. Heavily researched and rich in detail, Sakai’s storylines mix both humor and drama to tell adventures that include authentic Japanese history and culture in the form of a distinctly American comic book....
